Picture this: it's 5:00 AM and the sun's just starting to peek over Lake Michigan while you're already heading out for some serious salmon action. This isn't your typical weekend fishing trip - this is six hours of guided salmon hunting aboard the High Life II with Captain Chris at the helm. Whether you're a seasoned angler or someone who's been dreaming about landing their first big salmon, this private charter for up to 6 guests delivers the goods every Friday through Sunday. We're talking about getting out there when the fish are hungry and the lake's at its best.
When you step aboard the High Life II, you'll know you're in for something special. This 32-foot Wellcraft sportfishing boat isn't messing around - twin 700HP engines get you to the hot spots fast, while the A/C keeps you comfortable and the private bathroom means no cutting the trip short. Captain Chris and his crew have been working these waters long enough to know exactly where the salmon are staging, and they'll put you right on top of them. The best part? Everything's included - rods, reels, tackle, and they'll even clean your catch so you can head home with fillets ready for the grill. The early morning bite on Lake Michigan is legendary, and there's a reason we start before dawn - that's when the big Chinook and Coho are most active.
Salmon fishing on Lake Michigan is all about covering water and finding the right depth where these fish are cruising. We'll be running multiple lines at different levels using downriggers and planer boards to spread out our presentation. The crew sets up everything - from choosing the right lures and spoons that match what the salmon are feeding on to adjusting our speed and direction based on what the fish finder is showing. You don't need to know how to tie a perfect knot or read the electronics - just be ready to grab that rod when it starts screaming. The beauty of trolling is that we're constantly moving and searching, so even when one spot goes quiet, we're already heading to the next honey hole. Captain Chris knows these waters like his backyard and can read the subtle signs that most folks miss.
"Had a great time with captain Chris, very helpful very professional, got us in at the last minute great weather, would recommend captain Chris to anyone he is a great guy and a great captain" - Julian. "Best Charter! We had a group of 3 go out for a birthday celebration charter, and Captain Chris and Mike were absolutely amazing! I could not have asked for a better day out on the lake. We got 7 keeps and they were filleted or gutted as you wanted before you got to shore. With catching fish like these, you have to go to the best source. Not only were they knowledgeable and helpful during the trip, but they were also extremely friendly and personable. Giving us pointers, and keeping up with the, "trash-talk" was just what the Doctor ordered! I can't wait to book our next charter with Chris and Mike...you can't go wrong with this pair!" - Eric. "Great charter captain, Chris rugg, he works hard and is very good at what he does. The boat is Avery nice. Craft, stable and a wonderful fishing platform" - Jeff.
Chinook Salmon are the undisputed kings of Lake Michigan, and for good reason. These powerhouse fish can easily hit 20-30 pounds, with some monsters pushing even bigger numbers. They're most active during the early morning hours when the water temperature is just right, making our 5 AM start time perfect for targeting them. Chinooks love to fight deep and hard - when you hook into one, you'll know it immediately. The way they peel line off your reel and make those long, powerful runs is what keeps anglers coming back year after year. Spring through early summer is prime time, but these fish can be caught consistently throughout the season if you know where to look.
Coho Salmon bring a completely different energy to the table. While they might not have the raw size of their Chinook cousins, what they lack in weight they make up for in pure acrobatics. These silver bullets are famous for their jumping ability - hook a Coho and you're in for a show as they leap clear out of the water trying to throw your lure. They typically run 8-15 pounds and are incredibly strong fighters for their size. Cohos tend to school up more than Chinooks, so when you find them, you can often catch several in quick succession. They're also more willing to chase lures in shallower water, which can make for some exciting visual fishing when conditions are right.
At $775 for a private charter that accommodates up to 6 people, you're looking at world-class salmon fishing that won't break the bank when split among your group. The fact that Captain Chris offers free cancellation with a week's notice shows he's confident in delivering a top-rated experience every time out. Lake Michigan's salmon runs are legendary, and Kenosha sits right in the heart of some of the best fishing the Great Lakes have to offer. Whether you're planning a guys' trip, family outing, or just want to treat yourself to some serious fishing, this is the kind of charter that creates stories you'll be telling for years. Don't wait too long to book - weekend spots with respected captains like Chris fill up fast, especially during peak salmon season.

These are the kings of Lake Michigan - biggest salmon you'll find out here. Most Chinooks we catch run 12-20 pounds, but 30-pounders show up often enough to keep things interesting. They're built like torpedoes with silver sides and that distinctive black mouth. What makes them tricky is they hang deep during the day, usually 60-120 feet down in the thermocline where the water's coldest. That's why we start at 5 AM - early morning is when they move up and feed aggressively. The fight is something else - they'll make long, powerful runs that'll test your drag. Once you land one, you've got some of the best eating fish around with that rich, orange-red meat. My tip: when you feel that first hit, don't horse them up. Let them run and tire themselves out in the deep water before bringing them to the boat.

Silver bullets of the lake - that's what we call these acrobatic fighters. Cohos typically run 8-12 pounds and they're absolute showoffs once hooked. They'll jump clean out of the water multiple times, sometimes 6 feet straight up. You'll find them roaming the upper water column, usually 20-60 feet down, especially when chasing baitfish near the surface. They love our early morning bite when the lake's calm and the light is low. What guests love most is the fight - they're scrappy and never give up easy. The meat is outstanding too, bright orange and perfect for the grill. Unlike their bigger Chinook cousins, Cohos will often chase lures right to the boat, so keep your rod tip up and stay ready. Here's a local trick: when you see one jump, immediately drop your rod tip to give them slack - it prevents them from throwing the hook on their next leap.
